Enroll for the firearm proficiency course for the platform you want, in South Africa we have the following categories: Handgun, Self-loading Rifle, Manual Operated Rifle, Shotgun and Muzzleloader. You’ll find that our classes for proficiency training in handle and use a firearm is aligned with the prescribed outcomes of SAQA and specific for each type of firearm and regardless of your experience and skill level. You will get a second attempt to write the test over, however there will be costs involved to do the practical a second time!
You will be required to have certain learning assumed to be in place and be at least 16 years of age and with consent of your parents or guardian.
You will need to apply at your nearest Police station to your Residential address with the prescribed documents and a completed SAPS517 form accompanied by all the required documents at the nearest Police station to your Residential address.

Each Firearm platform has its own unit standards for different applications, in South Africa we have Private Handle and Use, Handle and Use for Business Purposes and then Demonstrate Tactical Proficiency with a Firearm in all which have specific outcomes you need to be found competent against to be awarded competence for that unit standard.
